“VALUE. USE. PROPERTY. ON THE SPATIAL DIMENSIONS OF LAND ISSUES“

– Die Veranstaltung findet ausschließlich auf Englisch statt –

Faculty of Architecture, RWTH Aachen University

Friday, 20.10.2023 [Foyer Reiffmuseum]

Land is the major factor determining the possibilities of a sustainable and socially equitable development in urban and rural contexts. In recent years, the unprecedented global increase in land and housing prices has—once again—moved land-related issues into the focus of urban planning and architectural scholarship. Responding to the deepening housing affordability crisis, the debate on the possible solutions to restrict land speculation is ongoing.

This symposium aims to collect interdisciplinary perspectives on land issues focusing on three fundamental concepts: value, use a, and propoerty. Speakers: Meta Berghauser Pont [Chalmers University of Technology], Sara Stevens [University of British Columbia], Benjamin Davy [TU Dortmund], Florian Hertweck [University of Luxembourg], Ifigenia Dimitrakou [University of Zürich], Elisabetta Fiocchi Malaspina [University of Zürich], Manuel Aalbers [KU Leuven], Thomas Hartmann [TU Dortmund], Gabu Heindl [University of Kassel], Christine Schwöbel-Patel [Warwick Law School] and others.

The symposium is organized by the departments Raumgestaltung (Franziska Kramer, Uwe Schröder) and Bauplan (Dasha Kuletskaya, Sabine Brück), RWTH Aachen University, in collaboration with MAS gta, ETH Zürich (Susanne Schindler, André Bideau) with the generous support of the DFG (German Research Foundation), ProRWTH Stiftung, GLS Treuhand Stiftung, und Trias Stiftung.
